BIRD (So you say your bird can sing)

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailFacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Lyrics

So you say – your bird can sing
Well I never heard one that didn’t
But flying is an entirely different thing
When there’s a cage wrapped around your wings

It’s a tragedy to bear – why do we do this to ourselves?
Money can get you there
But will it buy your freedom?

We look so close to try and understand
While the moment slips away
It’s like trying to catch a bird that’s already flown
When the love you need is in your heart

It’s a tragedy to bear – why do we do this to ourselves?
Denial will quell your despair
But will you know the reason?

Walking down the same old road
You think we would have learned by now
Albert Einstein he said it best
Expecting something different is not very sound

It’s a tragedy to bear – why do we do this to ourselves?

Denial will quell your despair
And money will get you there
But will it buy your freedom?

So you say that your bird can sing it’s a very incredible bird
So you say that your bird can sing it’s a very amazing bird
So you say that your bird can sing it’s a spectacular bird
Now you say that your bird can sing it’s a incredible bird

Money can get you there
Money can get you there
But will it buy your freedom?

So you say – your bird can sing
Well I never heard one that didn’t
But flying is an entirely different thing
When there’s a cage wrapped around your wings

Seasonal/month appropriate song: ‘December’

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailFacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I wrote this song a few years ago about as you might have guessed – December. I tried to capture the melancholy feeling of the Holiday Season through two aging lovers who have seen both the good and the bad and are now coming to terms with what lies ahead in their future. Hope you enjoy!

December – lyrics

Her light is on but does she feel?
Does she think she will never grow old?
I can’t remember the last deal that was ever made in the cold
December is always dark and the stars are seldom sold
They just hang there on display – no love for the one’s
Who stayed

Dreamers I call out your name
If I cut you will you bleed the same?
The young they live on their dreams
But the old live by their truths

Come down – come down my love
The hour is getting late

There’s a sunset on Christmas Eve
Orange and burning just like in your dream
When you awoke you were old
And you spread your wings and smiled
You said I’m just like the wind
I’m going to hold-on to the air

I jumped with a grin
And took hold of your hand
I said…

Come down – come down my love
The hour is getting late

Come down – come down my love
It’s Christmas Day

Birds Singing (hallelujah was beneath their wings)

I wrote this song about 5 years ago and really like the autumn/winter kind of feeling it evokes. I don’t know if this is something that I only see in my own mind – you be the judge. The lyrics represent a more abstract style of my writing. Sometimes I like to write very direct and sometimes I like to write in a more open ended symbolic manner that allows the listener and myself to interpret their own meaning. This is a love song of sorts.  I will leave the story-line up to you.

Hope you enjoy,

Birds Singing (hallelujah was beneath their wings)Lyrics

If words are not supposed to hurt

And actions are all that’s real

Then why if I say I love you

Would it bring you a flood of tears

If strength is measured in miles

And kindness just a childish desire

Then why is the Ransom I owe

Held by a moon that’s on fire

Chorus:

I heard the birds singing – they were calling your name while you slept

I saw the birds fly overhead – hallelujah was beneath their wings

The years have made me hard

But wiser in my demise

And while the sun circles the heavens

My heals are dug in the earth

My hands are callused with doubt

My confidence shrouded in fear

Perfect is only a word

But your words they spilled to me like wine

Chorus:

I heard the birds singing – they were calling your name while you slept

I saw the birds fly overhead – hallelujah was beneath their wings

Rustic Barn Sessions – November 2016

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailFacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I have been fortunate enough to find a home every Sunday with owner’s Jody and Jason Brenenstuhl of Rustic Barn Pub in Troy, NY. It’s a beautiful rustic atmosphere as you might have guessed from the establishment’s name – with a wonderful stage and intimate feel that really makes for a nice late Sunday afternoon/evening of music – 4-7 PM. I have been recording all my performances and hope to continue sharing some songs that I think came out especially well. To get the ball rolling here is my first batch of songs from November 2016.

Thanks for listening and downloads are free.

Seasonal (autumn) song: ‘Beauty in the Light’

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailFacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Although I can appreciate the change of seasons living in upstate/Troy, New York, there is something about late fall/autumn and the shortening daylight that makes me feel a bit melancholy/depressed, almost as if I am grieving the loss of a friend from warmer days. The woman I was dating at the time I wrote this, helped me see another side to it all, as she was a big fan of winter and that certain magic that comes with a first snow, the winter solstice, a New Year beginning, bringing new possibilities to ones mind. I recorded this in my very little office/studio – which surprisingly has some decent acoustics.

Hope you enjoy,

‘Beauty in the Light’ – Lyrics

Watching the snow come down – blowing my memories

I still remember that green grass

So pure and clean

But fall is coming on – winter on its way

I feel that chill  I can’t get warm

Time to put my love away

I’m shrugging that cold away – I believe I might be fine

But you know me better there’s things that words

Just can’t define

Then you said there’s beauty in the light

All the way – from the stars down to our eyes (from the stars to our eyes…)

So we’ll walk hand in hand – through the cold and damp

Spring is coming it always does

Maybe we can make it there

But you said why worry – about something that’s so far off

When there’s beauty in the air

And magic in our hearts

Then you said there’s beauty in the light

All the way – from the stars down to our eyes (from the stars to our eyes…)
